Health and Fitness Talk ? Febrile Seizures

by Kimberly Allen, RN

Febrile seizures are convulsions that occur in conjunction with a?sudden rise in body temperatur.? Febrile seizures are fairly common?occurring in 1 out of every 25 children and they occur in both boys??and girls.? Almost all febrile seizures occur in children between 6?month and 5 years, though it is rare for them to occur after 3 years?of age.? Febrile seizures can also run in families.? For example,?there are four children in my family and all four of us had febrile?seizures.

Usually febrile seizures occur in resposne to a sudden spike in your?child?s body temperature.? The seizures generally only occur on the?first day of the fever in response to the sudden change.? Most of the?time fevers that trigger a seizure are in response to either a?bacterial or viral infection, however not always.? My youngest sister?would have febrile seizures in response to sudden spikes in her body?temperature that were as high as 106.8F.? She was hospitalized several?times, not for the seizures, but for the high temperatures.? She would?only have the seizure on the first day, but the fever would last for?several? days.? And the Drs were never able to find a cause for the?fever, she was always diagnosed with a high fever of unknown origin.

Then my son had high fevers, up to 104.8F but with hives and the Drs?could not find a cause and he was diagnosed with high fever with hives?of unknow origin.? These diagnosis? of unknown origin were made only?after extensive testing to determine a cause so always have your child?examined by your Dr if he/she develops a?febrile seizure?because there?are many conditions that can cause sudden temperature spikes leading?to seizures including meningitis and encephalitis, it?s immportant to?note that both of these conditions can cause seizures without a fever.
Researchers have also identified several genes associated with?febrile seizures though how the genes affect febrile seizures?continues to be studied.

There are two types of febrile seizures, simple and complex seizures.?Simple febrile seizures are the most common and are considered less?serious than the complex febrile seizures.? Simple febrile seizures?last less than 15min, they generally involve the entire body and do?not occur more than once in a 24 hour period.? Complex febrile?seizures are less common and are considered the more serious of the?two. ?These seizures will last longer than 15 minutes and they usually?occur repeatedly during the first 24 hours and/or affects only one?side of your chuilds body.

If your child experiences a febrile seizure it?s important to contact?your childs Dr immediately after the seizure.? If your child is?vomiting, complaining of a stiffneck or is severely lethargic or
having difficulty breathing call 911 and take your child to the local?emergency room.?While your child is having a febrile seizure place him/her in a safe?place where they can?t ffall or hit something and injure himself.?Always place your chikld on their side to prevent them from choking?and watch or any change in the color of your childs face and breathing?problems.? Should your childs seizure last longer than 15 minutes or?he/she turns blue call 911 immediately do not wait for the seizure to?end.? It?s also important to understand the things you should not do
during a seizure.? First do not attempt to restrain or hold your child?or attempt to put anything in his/her mouth, and do not put your child?into a cool or luke warm bath to try to bring down the temperature.? I?do realize that these things were common practice in the past but?research has indicated they cause more harm than good.? Also you do?not want to try to give any medications as it increases the potential?for your child to choke.

Most febrile seizures are harmless and resove on their own, however?they are frequently an indication that something else is going on that?may or may not need to be treated.

WHO/Europe | Information for the media - Investing in response ...

Copenhagen and Stockholm, 30 November 2012

New data for 2011 show that more than 121 000 new HIV cases were reported in the WHO European Region, including more than 28 000 in the European Union and the European Economic Area (EU/EEA). This indicates an increase for the Region from the previous year, which highlights the importance of sustaining interventions, even in times of economic austerity, to curb the continuing HIV transmission across Europe.

A new report by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and WHO/Europe (1), released to mark World AIDS Day, indicates that, while the number of new HIV cases has fallen in many parts of the world, transmission shows no signs of a decline in the EU/EEA and is rising in eastern Europe and central Asia.

Further, continuing HIV outbreaks in some EU countries among people who inject drugs highlight that previously low numbers can rapidly rise in an outbreak when interventions are not sufficiently in place.

?The global financial crisis is challenging governments to invest in improved access to effective health interventions to prevent, test for and treat HIV/AIDS. Only one patient in four receives the needed antiretroviral treatment in the eastern part of the Region, one of the lowest rates in the world,? says Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe. ?We urgently need to scale up resources, especially in eastern Europe and central Asia. Every euro spent now on HIV response will largely be paid back with savings on future treatment costs, not to mention the societal gains from keeping people healthy and productive.?

Speaking at a forum on public health in Athens, Greece on the eve of World AIDS Day, ECDC Director Marc Sprenger stressed: ?Several recent examples from different EU countries show that failure to break the chain of HIV transmission will inevitably lead to high long-term HIV prevalence, particularly when we see from our data that 50% of the newly infected get tested late. If we want to reduce and prevent further transmission of HIV across Europe, we need to invest in and promote HIV counselling and testing. This way, we ensure early diagnosis, as well as access and adherence to treatment; decrease the number of late presenters; and improve the longer-term treatment outcomes for the individuals concerned.?

Situation in the WHO European Region

The new data show that over three quarters of the new HIV infections were reported from the eastern part of the European Region. Half of the newly diagnosed people in the Region learn of their HIV status late, when the benefits of treatment are reduced. Late diagnosis, along with low treatment coverage, results in increasing numbers of AIDS cases and deaths in eastern Europe and central Asia, which show no signs of stabilization or decline.

HIV is still highly concentrated in key populations, such as men who have sex with men, and people who inject drugs or come from countries with generalized HIV epidemics. Nevertheless, the new data indicate an increase in heterosexual transmission, now accounting for 50% of cases in the Region. Preventive interventions for couples in which one of the partners is engaged in high-risk behaviour should address the risk of heterosexual transmission.

The newly published surveillance report further supports the recommendations of WHO?s European Action Plan for HIV/AIDS 2012?2015, endorsed by all countries in the Region in 2011. It highlights the need to further promote HIV counselling and testing services throughout Europe to ensure that each and every person living with HIV is diagnosed and treated early. Action should particularly address key populations, and aim to reduce vulnerability and involve patients? and civil-society organizations. This will result in improved treatment outcomes and clinical benefits, and help to prevent or reduce HIV transmission.

Situation in the EU/EEA

In the EU/EEA, HIV is highly concentrated in key populations, such as men who have sex with men, who account for the majority of cases, and people who originate from countries with generalized HIV epidemics or inject drugs. The number of HIV infections among people who inject drugs remained fairly low in 2011 (5% of HIV diagnoses), with a 40% decline since 2004.

During the forum on public health held in Athens on 30 November, ECDC presented an in-depth assessment of the HIV situation in Greece. It showed that a combination of factors may cause the current outbreak among people who inject drugs in Athens, one of the most important being long-term low levels of preventive services prior to the outbreak. ECDC urged that, in responding to the outbreak, the Greek authorities immediately prioritize interventions such as scaling up the coverage of opioid substitution treatment and needle and syringe programmes.

The number of AIDS cases has consistently declined in the EU/EEA since the mid-1990s.

Notes to editors

World AIDS Day is celebrated on 1 December each year around the world. It has become one of the most widely recognized international health days and a key opportunity to raise awareness, commemorate those who have died, and celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services.

The WHO European Region comprises 53 countries, with a population of nearly 900 million people, of which around 508 million live in the EU/EEA (27 EU Member States plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).

Wood Partners Begins Construction on Downtown Denver M-F ...

November 29, 2012

By Keith Loria, Contributing Writer

Wood Partners, East West Partners and USAA Real Estate have teamed to break ground on Alta City House, a five-story, 281-unit luxury apartment complex in Denver, Colo., that?s part of an ambitious urban redevelopment project.

?It?s an entire city block that we?ve purchased and access is pretty special,? Tim McEntee, Wood Partners? director, told Commercial Property Executive. ?There?s a bridge that crosses over from Riverfront Park into Union Station and drops into our site. Then, 100 feet from there is the light rail platform that has just been relocated there.?

Located at 1801 Chestnut St., Alta City House will be situated west of Denver?s iconic train station at 17th and Wynkoop streets in the heart of the bustling Union Station neighborhood.

?Alta City House is going up in one of the most exciting urban living-working-entertainment centers in the country,? McEntee said.??With over six modes of transportation?from light rail to bike paths?and access to three pro sports venues, 1,200 restaurants and bars, and one of the largest arts complexes in the nation, Alta City House could hardly be better positioned.?

Alta City House will be part of a 12-block redevelopment initiative, anchored by Union Station, an ultramodern transit hub, surrounded by public plazas and gardens, restaurants, and residential and retail space.

?It?s going to be a world-class urban development and it?s already half way there,? McEntee added. ?Right now you have four million-square-feet of new commercial right next to Union Station and more corporate users moving in. It was a long time coming and right now it?s one of the most dynamic spots in Denver.?

The five-story apartment building will offer 183 one-bedroom units, ranging from 645 to 825 square feet; 90 two-bedroom units, from 991 to 1,227 square feet; and eight three-bedroom, 1,300-square-foot units.

Amenities planned include a rooftop deck with a year-round outdoor kitchen, fireplace, and swimming pool, a dog wash, a two-story fitness center, two-story club room, cyber caf? and outdoor courtyards and a plaza opening to the 18th Street pedestrian bridge.

?The amenity package is probably one of the most impressive that we?ve developed in Denver so far,? McEntee concluded. ?It will have a roof deck, it overlooks Coors Field, it will have a fully-equipped bike shop and a climate-controlled wine cellar with lockers for residents to utilize.?

jazz: What Your Emergency Survival Kits Should Contain | Travel ...

Emergency survival kits are just that they are kits that will help you get through a real emergency. A survival situation is the balance between life and death. There are so many situations where you would need a survival kit.

You can put together or purchase a kit for the home, the car and outdoors. Every home in America should have at least one survival kit for every member of the house. The last decade has seen some of the worst violence in American history.

The last decade has also seen some of the worst storms in all of history. Having a survival kit is not a luxury it is without a doubt a necessity. The Federal government even recommends that every home should have an emergency kit for every member of the household.

For the Home Family of Four

Each emergency kit should contain at least:

Three days of water Three days of food Medical supplies Important documents (at least copies) Can opener portable radio flashlight candle lighter city map portable car charger for cell phones

To effectively survive any disaster natural or man made the above items need to be present and ready for use. You can either put together this kit yourself or you can buy one. You want to be sure to have enough food and water to last at least three days.

Medical supplies should be a freshly stocked first aid kit and if any family member is diabetic or needs other life saving treatment/medication than that should also be present (rotate frequently to insure freshness).

Keep copies of all your important documents in the kit. Things like birth certificates, insurance policies for the home and the car and any other documents that may be hard to replace in a time of crisis.

A can opener ( you would be surprised how many people forget this) so you can open canned goods. A portable battery operated radio so that you can get news from the outside world is also important. Flashlights so that you can see should the power go out, candles for the same reason.

Make sure you have a lighter they are more reliable than matches. A map of your neighborhood or city so you know exit routes. Portable car charger for cell phones.

A good investment is a solar hank cranked lantern and radio just in case the emergency lasts longer and you run out of batteries.

Keep some cash and some change stashed in your kit. If the power goes down so does the ATM?s bank?s and other places that you can get money. Remember when the power goes down there is no place to ge gasoline either.

Any good survival kit will be compact enough to move around yet stacked enough with the gear that you and your family will need to make it through the crisis. A lot of families by one kit for each member although it is not necessary.

Hope for the Best Plan for the Worst

It is always best to plan ahead just in case. There were so many families that lost their basic ability to feed their families during some of the awful storms mother nature threw at them. Many times these storms struck in the dead of the night without warning.

Hundreds and in some cases thousands of people were killed or died after the fact. A little planning can go a really long way in surviving it does not take long to put a kit together and to purchase one is relatively inexpensive.

It is worth the peace of mind to be prepared.

For the Individual

If you are an outdoors person and journey into the woods, out on the ocean or anywhere that takes you away from the population and emergency kit should be a part of your planning as well. In the event you never use the items in your emergency kit that is perfect but if you need the items it is nice to know that they are there!

The same items for the home can be used in your outdoor survival kit just scale it down to make it easy to carry!

Paul is a long-time survivalist and writer. He?s always been prepared and now tries to get his family and friends prepared as well. You can read more about this topic and find survival gear at this website.

Russia's Cossacks start patrolling Moscow streets

MOSCOW (AP) ? Renowned for their sword-fighting prowess and notorious for their anti-Semitism in czarist Russia, the Cossacks are taking on new foes: beggars, drunks and improperly parked cars.

With the approval of city authorities, eight Cossacks clad in traditional fur hats and uniforms patrolled a Moscow train station on Tuesday looking for signs of minor public disturbances.

The Kremlin is seeking to use the once-feared paramilitary squads in its new drive to promote conservative values and appeal to nationalists.

The southern Krasnodar province ? which includes Sochi, the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics ? launched Cossack patrols in September to crack down on Muslim migrants from the neighboring Caucasus. Now they've made it to the Russian capital.

Cossacks trace their history in Russia back to the 15th century. Serving in the czarist cavalry, they spearheaded imperial Russia's expansion in exchange for special privileges, including the right to govern their own villages. In the 2010 census, about 650,000 Russians declared themselves Cossacks.

Tuesday's patrol was a test run on whether the group can become an armed and salaried auxiliary police force, with the power of arrest, patrol leader Igor Gulichev said.

He compared his forces to the Texas Rangers, the elite law-enforcement body in the U.S. state.

"They are just like Cossacks, and they work for the government, but they're welcomed with open arms. How come this should be allowed in America, but not in Russia, with our rich Cossack traditions? We're like Chuck Norris!" Gulichev said, in reference to the cult karate-kicking star of the television series "Walker, Texas Ranger."

Gulichev's group, which he said numbers up to 85, has patrolled southwestern Moscow with police approval for the past year, and has brought about 35 arrests. They are unpaid but receive free public transport passes and uniforms. Tuesday's patrol was the first in central Moscow.

The conservative Cossacks have increased their political activity in response to an impromptu protest that feminist punk rockers Pussy Riot staged in Moscow's main cathedral in February. Groups of Cossacks recently barred visitors from entering a Moscow art exhibition that daubed Pussy Riot's trademark balaclavas over Orthodox Christian icons, and they led a successful campaign to cancel a staging of Vladimir Nabokov's racy novel "Lolita" in St. Petersburg.

A government-backed Cossack political party held its first congress in Moscow this weekend. Communists have called it a cheap attempt to siphon pensioners' support from their party, which is widely known by the same acronym. Six other groups have applied to form splinter Cossack parties.

Gulichev, whose official title is deputy ataman, a Turkic word meaning commander, said he expected his group's responsibilities would soon expand to fighting drug trafficking and terrorism, mirroring the special relationship Cossacks had with the czars. "Cossacks have always been on the frontiers of the Russian empire, fighting foes and adversaries, illegal immigration ? repulsing raids, as people say today," he added.

Tuesday's modest effort lasted barely more than an hour and yielded few rewards. Without the police supervisor that Russian law requires to oversee volunteer deputies, the Cossacks drove away two elderly beggars, an old woman selling dried wild mushrooms and one unlicensed trading stall before piling into a bus. The stall was back selling socks within hours.

City authorities later distanced themselves from the Cossack patrol, even though officials had announced it widely the day before. Moscow's central district administration and the city Cossack committee released a joint statement denying they had authorized the patrol and saying that the Cossacks did not have the authority to crack down on unlicensed traders or badly parked cars.

Gulichev later told the Interfax news agency that the Cossacks had been hampered by the several dozen journalists who arrived to cover the patrol. The Cossacks spent most of their time giving interviews or aimlessly milling around the square, and only began their battle against public disturbances after reporters from Russian state television desperately begged them to do something on camera.

President Vladimir Putin was inducted into what is known as the Cossack host in 2005 and given the rank of Cossack colonel, previously held by imperial czars.

Russia plans to restore the functions Cossacks had in the imperial Russian army, where they were instrumental in repelling Napoleon's invading army in 1812 and led pogroms against Jews. A 400,000-strong All-Russia Cossack Host directly subordinate to Putin is scheduled to be launched by the end of the year.

Mexico's fearless woman mayor who survived two drug gang assassination attempts is beaten to death and dumped by the roadside

She had survived two assassination attempts which claimed the life of her first husband and left her with horrific wounds that never really healed.

But despite being a marked woman, Maria Santos Gorrostieta remained defiant to the very end.

With unimaginable courage, the 36-year-old stood up to the drugs gangs that had ravaged Mexico and Tiquicheo, the district where she once served as mayor. When some doubted that she had been shot, Gorrostieta bared the scars that riddled her flesh and swore she would never give in.

It was almost inevitable that she would eventually pay for her bravery with her life.

Gorrostieta's body - stabbed, burned, battered and bound at wrist and ankle - was found dumped by a roadside in San Juan Tararameo, Cuitzeo Township.

She left behind three young sons. Her second husband Nereo Delgado Patinoran, understood to have vanished at the same time she did, is still missing.

Gorrostieta had seen her government security team withdrawn in November last year, and then her police escort in January.

The decision has provoked much soul-searching in Mexico which has been torn apart by brutal drug cartels.

She had become an icon in Mexico for her work against the gangs and had been described as a heroine of the 21st century.

Gorrostieta was elected as mayor of Tiquicheo, a rural district in Michoacan, west of Mexico City, in 2008.

Almost immediately, she received threats. The first assassination attempt came in October 2009 when the car she was travelling in with her first husband Jose Sanchez came under fire from gunmen in the town of El Limone.

The attack claimed his life but Gorrostieta lived. An attempt had been made on Sanchez's life earlier that year, but he managed to escape the armed mob who came after him.

Gorrostieta bravely battled back from her injuries in the face of overwhelming tragedy, but she was not destined to know peace.

The next attempt on her life was just three months later, when an masked group carrying assault rifles ambushed her on the road between Michoacan and Guerreo state. The van she was traveling in was peppered by 30 bullets. Three hit her.

This time Gorrostieta's injuries were more severe, leaving multiple scars and forcing her to wear a colostomy bag. She was left in constant pain.

A reporter was also wounded in the attack, as well as her press officer and brother.

In a famous act of defiance, she posed for pictures showing the extent of her horrifying wounds to draw attention to the brutality the drug gangs routinely mete out to their opponents.

In a statement to the public made at the time, the devout Catholic said: 'At another stage in my life, perhaps I would have resigned from what I have, my position, my responsibilities as the leader of my Tiquicheo.

'But today, no. It is not possible for me to surrender when I have three sons, whom I have to educate by setting an example, and also because of the memory of the man of my life, the father of my three little ones, the one who was able to teach me the value of things and to fight for them.

'Although he is no longer with us, he continues to be the light that guides my decisions.'

She added: 'I struggle day to day to erase from my mind the images of the horror I lived, and that others who did not deserve or expect it also suffered.

'I wanted to show them my wounded, mutilated, humiliated body, because Im not ashamed of it, because it is the product of the great misfortunes that have scarred my life, that of my children and my family.'

'Despite my own safety and that of my family, what occupies my mind is my responsibility towards my people, the children, the women, the elderly and the men who break their souls every day without rest to find a piece of bread for their children.

'Freedom brings with it responsibilities and I dont dare fall behind. My long road is not yet finished - the footprint that we leave behind in our country depends on the battle that we lose and the loyalty we put into it.'

After her ordeal she remarried and ran for a seat in Mexico's Congress of the Union, but failed to gain the backing she needed.

Her family reported her missing on November 14 and her body was found three days later.

A murder hunt has been launched and police are still searching for her missing husband.

Mexico has been torn apart by murderous drug gangs since President Felipe Calderon launched his drug offensive in 2006.

More than 50,000 people have been killed in clashes between rival drug cartels and security forces and about two dozen mayors have been murdered.

The cartels have ruled the streets with fear for years, enforcing their authority with murders, bribery and torture.

But after decades of using force to combat the gangs, it is U.S. lawmakers who are the criminals' biggest problem.

Legalisation of marijuana, as recently voted for by Colorado and Washington states, may wipe billions of dollars from the cartels annual profits.

And it has left politicians in Mexico with a tough question: How can they continue to justify spending money and lives fighting drug distribution to America when it will be legal in some states from next month?

Mexico presidential advisor Luis Videgaray said in a radio interview last week: 'Obviously, we cant handle a product that is illegal in Mexico, trying to stop its transfer to the United States, when in the United States, at least in part of the United States, it now has a different status'

From January to September last year, 12,903 people were killed in the country in drug-related crime, ranging from gang members, Mexican military and innocent victims caught up in gun battles.

The Mexican government claim they are winning the war on drugs, but few outside or inside the country believe that.

So corrupt are their police that they are rarely employed in combating the cartels. Instead, the country relies on its army to tackle the gangs while it attempts to rebuild its police forces.

Public support for the drug war continues to fall as the death toll rises and the cartels profits rise.

The business of trafficking drugs from Mexico into the U.S. is estimated to be a business worth between $13billion (8billion) and $49billion (30billion), with 90 per cent of all cocaine used in America originating from the country, according to a U.S. state report.

The U.S. Justice Department considers the cartels as Americas greatest organised crime threat, while conceding that it is U.S. dollars that fund the crime ravaging Mexico.

In 2009 a military assessment predicted that if the drugs war continued for another 25 years, Mexicos government was at serious risk of collapse and the conflict would spread into America.

A year earlier, the U.S. Joint Forces Command suggested a similar time-scale of collapse in Mexico and warned American intervention may be necessary due to the implications for homeland security.

The problem of strengthening the Mexico/U.S. border even prompted President Barack Obama to deploy 1,200 National Guard troops in 2010.

The two major cartels in Mexico are now the Sinaloa Cartel and Los Zetas.

The Sinaloa Cartel was formed when several gangs agreed to join forces in 2006 and is now led by Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman.

He is Mexico's most wanted drug trafficker and is believed to be worth $1billion. Forbes magazing even declared him the 55th most powerful man in the world in 2009.

Los Zetas were originally a mercenary outfit of former elite members of the Mexican army by the Gulf Cartel.

Consisting of Airmobile Special Forces Group and Amphibian Group of Special Forces members, they helped control parts of Mexico for the Gulf Cartel until its leader, Osiel Cardenas Guillen, was arrested.

Los Zetas took the opportunity to seize power for themselves and are now a 300-strong independent drugs and arms trafficking gang under the leadership of Heriberto Lazcano.

BRAVERY, LOSS AND SACRIFICE: THE LIFE OF DR MARIA GORROSTIETA

Gorrostieta was born in 1976 and graduated in medicine from a university in the city of Morelia.

She was elected mayor of Tiquicheo in 2008 and served until 2011. During that time she defected from the Institutional Revolutionary party to the left-wing Democratic Revolution party.

In January 2009 her husband Jose Sanchez Chavez was set upon by an armed group but escaped

In October that year Maria was attacked while she was with her husband as they drove along in El Limone. Jose died that day from gunshot wounds. Maria survived but was taken to a hospital in Morelia, the state capital.

On January 23, 2010, she was attacked by men with machine guns in Ciudad Altamirano Guerrero, on her way to an event at the City Hall. She was severely injured after being hit by three bullets, as well as receiving wounds in the crash after the shooting, and had to use a colostomy bag. She said her wounds left her in constant pain.

On Saturday November 17 her body was found by farm workers from San Juan Tararameo, Cuitzeo Township, who were heading to work. She was discovered on the property known as El Chupadero. The next day she was identified by members of her family.

A new experiment showed how a popular plastic can stop a speeding bullet. The supersmall glass bead in the middle of this image is speeding through plastic at 1,500 meters per second (nearly 1 mile per second). Red areas show where the plastic compresses most on impact.

A bullet fired into a disk of polyurethane ? a type of plastic ? may not burst out the other side. In some instances, the bullet will stop in its tracks, frozen by the plastic and sealed inside. How a simple plastic can do this had left researchers scratching their heads. Until now.

3 Steps to a More Secure Password - Legal Productivity

Password Security TipsYour email, social media, bank accounts, credit cards, online stores and so much more are all protected by passwords. Secure, hard-to-hack passwords help to keep your digital life safe from hacking eyes. Here are 3 steps to ramp up your password security.

1. Use a unique email address for passwords only ? Forget your password? No problem, simply enter your email address and the site will send you instructions to reset your password. Of course, if a hacker knows your email address from your website, social networks or information gathering sites, they attack that address and use it to easily access your other password protected sites. Instead create a unique, secure email address for password recovery only.

2. Provide extended answers to security questions ? Another way to retrieve your password is to answer a series of questions, like the city of your birth, your mother?s maiden name (NEVER give this out), or your first pet. This, of course, is easy to crack for people that know you or have access to your history. Instead, give descriptive, but memorable answers. Like ?Chocolate Max? for your dark brown Terrier, or ?Hot and Steamy Rio? for your city of birth. Or choose one unique word or phrase and add it to all of your answers, like ?The Beatles Max?, or ?The Beatles Rio?.

3. A phrase is better than an alpha-numeric password ? The most common passwords are ?password? and ?123456?. You won?t of course, use those, but even that @w3s0me password that you created is not so awesome. Software tools can crack them. Instead, use a phrase, like ?Awes0me Ch33zeburger?.

Bonus tip: Use a unique password for each site, even if it?s the same phrase followed by a unique identifier for each login. This will lessen the damage should one password be compromised.

Egypt's Morsi says he stands by his decrees

CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's Islamist president has told the nation's top judges that he acted within his rights when he issued a series of decrees giving him sweeping powers, according to his spokesman.

That stand is likely to trigger a prolonged showdown with the opposition.

Presidential spokesman Yasser Ali told reporters Monday that Mohammed Morsi assured the judges that the decrees did not in any way "infringe" on the judiciary.

Ali's comments signaled Morsi's resolve not to back down or compromise on the steps he announced Thursday, putting himself and a body writing a new constitution above the judiciary.

Morsi's opponents and supporters plan rival rallies on Tuesday in Cairo.

Disney?s new robot plays catch with your kids

3 hrs.

For better ? or worse ? the research lab side of Disney is building a robot that plays a decent game of catch, meaning parents can keep their eyes on Facebook while their kids get a bit of exercise.

The robot has a human-like appearance and uses a Microsoft Kinect to track the balls. After a few practice tosses, almost anyone can successfully play catch with it.

The humanoid is intended to give theme-park visitors a means to interact with robots without actually touching them and accidently causing thousands of dollars? worth of damage, according to the Disney Research video below explaining the project.?

The robot is programmed to turn its head, giving the impression it is maintaining body presence with its playmate and tracking the ball with its eyes. When it misses a bad toss, the robot moves its head as if looking for the lost ball or bowing in embarrassment. Other times, it just shrugs its shoulders.

Importantly, there are no temper tantrums or rants about lost scholarship opportunities. Instead, the robot keeps playing, entertaining the old fashioned way, with a twist of the future thrown in for good measure.

Android Kids App: Goodnight Moon

Goodnight Moon

Does it get any more classic than this? Developer Loud Crow -- which has brought the works of Sandra Boynton, Beatrix Potter and even Charles Schulz's Charlie Brown to Android -- now has brought us the timeless kids book, "Goodnight Moon."

It's done in the usual Loud Crow fashion. The app can read the book aloud, word for word. Tap a word, and it's sounded out. Or you can choose to read to yourself. As you make your way through the story, you can use a magnifying glass to explore the great green room, and get a closer look at the telephone. And the red balloon. And the picture of the cow jumping over the moon. And there are plenty of animations to keep kids interested. Or, parents who love to reminisce.

If you still need more, in-app purchases will unlock letter and number features in the app. Be sure to take a look at the app after you buy it. It works fine on tablets, but not on my Nexus 4. We've got some demo video after the break.

PFT: Seattle CBs facing suspensions for PEDs

New York Giants quarterback Manning passes under pressure by the Green Bay Packers during the first quarter of their NFL football game in East RutherfordReuters

The arm looked rested.

So did the legs.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning bounced back from a rough stretch before the bye, but the truth is, he wasn?t all that different than he always has been.

He?s always been pretty good, even if he hasn?t been as well-regarded as others.

Manning led the Giants to a clean and thorough 38-10 thrashing of the Packers, to improve to 7-4 on the season.

He was 16-of-30 passing for 249 yards and three touchdowns, and showed some nerve (if not excellent judgement) by rushing for a first down early, and not sliding.

It was the kind of night he needed after a rough stretch before the bye. He used the time off to rest his arm (which, for the record, seemed fine) and clear his head by watching classing movies, such as ?Road House.? Like Patrick Swayze?s character Dalton, who people constantly underestimate by saying ?I thought you?d be bigger,? Manning?s had a harder time fighting perceptions than opposing defenses.

Manning threw his 200th career touchdown pass in the third quarter, passing Phil Simms for most in Giants franchise history. Simms can parse it however he chooses, the guy who spent his career being the little brother is elite.

And if he?s not, it?s the definition of the word that needs a second look.

Here are five more things we learned during Sunday Night Football:

1. As long as Aaron Rodgers is your quarterback, there?s a ceiling on how often you want the ball out of his hands.

But there?s a difference between not wanting to run and not being able to. The Packers are stuck on not being able to.

Having a philosophy is fine. But there will be nights when good teams can game-plan your strengths out of your hands, and you have to have a Plan B. The Packers Plan B is simply ?throw some more? and that didn?t get them anywhere.

2. Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has interviewed for head coaching jobs before.

He will again, and the Giants better enjoy him while they can.

Fewell (who was the runner-up to Ron Rivera for the Carolina job two years ago, and might have another chance soon) had the Giants defense humming after the bye week, constantly throwing new looks at the Packers.

He opened the game in a three-safety set, with the return of Kenny Phillips. That Stevie Brown had played well in Phillips? absence made it reasonable, but they weren?t through tweaking. At one point, they threw safety Will Hill out there with Phillips, Brown and Antrel Rolle.

Coupled with the sheer talent they have up front, that gives Fewell the ability to tinker, and he?s proving he knows how to move the pieces around.

Phillips wasn?t able to finish the game with a knee injury, so Fewell?s ability to improvise will be tested again. He?s up to it.

3. In the third quarter, the Giants dropped Rodgers for the 36th time this season.

That?s the same number he absorbed last season, and there are five more games left to play.

The Packers line has been a hash all year, but losing right tackle Bryan Bulaga might have been a last-straw situation, putting multiple guys in bad positions.

In addition to getting some guys well, the Packers need to invest in blockers this offseason, which could add some balance to the offense as well as keeping Rodgers on his feet if he?s going to throw on practically every play.

4. Maybe practice is overrated.

Ahmad Bradshaw, who basically shows up for work on Sunday, ran well Sunday night. Taking the screen pass 59 yards early was one thing, but the burst he showed on his 13-yard touchdown run made him look like a guy who was tired of losing short-yardage carries to Andre Brown.

Bradshaw?s foot issues have obviously robbed him of some of his burst, but he can still get the job done, thanks in part to the fact they?re willing to use him smartly.

5. Perhaps Packers coach Mike McCarthy was giving his kicker a chance to hit a home run, to regain some confidence.

But letting embattled Mason Crosby try his first one from 55 yards in a stadium not known for its consistent conditions wasn?t the best bet to get him back on tack.

Naturally, Crosby missed.

He entered the game 11-of-18 on field goals this season, having missed five of his previous 10. He came back to hit a 28-yarder, but he?s well off his career pace, and you wonder how many chances he?ll get.

It also gave the Giants a short field, and they scored in a hurry to go up 14-7 in the first quarter, and they never looked back.

Discover Online Video Production For Small Businesses | Free ...

Do you still find yourself stuck in creating sales letter in long form? If yes, may be now is the time for you to drop that and try online video production for the benefit of your web video marketing business. Many entrepreneurs have taken the switch to it some time ago. Nonetheless, it is not yet too late for you to try it today.

Since this is different from the method that you got used to, there are important things which you must note to ensure brand recognition and increased sales coming your way. The three elements you should focus on are your target market, video creation processes and successful video distribution. Insights on these will be shared in this article. Feel free to read on and pick all the helpful ideas.

The number of views a clip gets is often the gauge for a successful online video production. The key to getting as many people as possible to view your clips is to pattern their content according to the interests and the problems they have a hand. Be generous to share solutions to these problems. Do not limit the information you share to what you personally know, interview big names in your niche. This can give your website an authoritative aura.

If you have more than enough budget, never be double-minded about getting the services of specialists who can produce excellent promo clips on your behalf. If your situation is otherwise, have good gadgets at hand ? a camera, tripod, microphone and set of lights. Also, be skilled up with video production tips which can get you going in this task.

As for the types of promotional clips to create, here are the different kinds from which you can choose ? viral, conversion and educational. Viral videos abound in platforms like YouTube. Their being unusual and entertaining is what makes them a hit to people from all walks of life. These can get your website increased hits. However, an increased sale through them is quite questionable.

Conversion clips are the ones seen on landing pages. As these clips are to encourage website visitors to purchase, they have to be created with ingenuity. For one, they must include explicit call to action phrases that will guide visitors to give your offers a try. Lastly, there are educational clips. This type is most enjoyed by internet users hungry for information. You can create a series of tutorial clips showing how each item in your product line is used. The important thing here is that you highlight your products or your brand as the solution to the viewers? problems. While tutorial clips can be distributed through platforms, they are best published on your web pages as well.

Again, this online video production task may be demanding for you as far as your time and skills are concerned. Consider then to hire a firm of experts in the field. While this will be an additional expense, this can serve as a great way to save and earn steady income for your business in the future. Select a firm that will be willing to provide the service you need at a rate that you can afford without having the quality of outputs sacrificed.

5 Great Benefits Of Education Trips For Children - nouss-nouss

Many parents take their children for education trips but there are still some parents that can't come up with a trip plan for their kids. Unfortunately, these parents fail to recognize the importance of educational trips for children and how it can mould a child into a responsible, intelligent adult.

1: Children Get To Know Their Family Better

Educational trips with family give children an opportunity to interact better in a social setup, especially if the trip has other family members and friends. It is a great way to nurture communication and socializing skills in your child. Social gatherings and educational trip will make children feel more secure about relationships and it will also plant socializing skills in them.

2: A Better, Relaxed Mindset

Children, like adults need a break from the monotonous lifestyle of going to school from Monday to Friday and playing video games on weekends. Although, their life may not look like a stressed out one that most parents lead, they also get frustrated in challenging academic life, and this will affect their ability to learn new things. An education trip is the best way to enhance their learning skills and divert their mind from school in a positive way. Children that travel frequently with their parents and visit educational sites are usually well behaved and intelligent.

3: Knowledge

One indisputable benefit of an educational trip is the opportunity to learn new things. Educational trips give children an opportunity to learn things through visuals and the feeling of learning is not there. They are observing things at an educational trip and this will deeply feed information into their heart. For the knowledge hungry child, each educational trip will be an excellent opportunity to learn and be active. Children that do not go out regularly with their parents tend to develop lazy habits and have issues in communicating with others. Children need exposure to public places with their parents so that they can observe and learn from their parents.

4: Respect To Nature

We all know about global warming and how natural resources are running short. This is a big issue and if our future generations are not concerned about the Mother Nature, the existence of our planet is questionable. However, awareness about nature can't be built without giving your children opportunities to learn and explore it. Many children have limited knowledge about marine life and how vivid it is, but if you take them to a marine aquarium like the Visit Sea Life, your child will quickly realize how wonderful marine life is, and they will not feel like spoiling it.

5: Cultural Learning

When you take your child to a public place, he gets an opportunity to see and explore people from different walks of life and this definitely gives them an advantage in understanding different cultures.

These are the 5 great benefits of taking your child to an educational trip. There are many stunning places inside the UK where you can take your child so that he can explore and learn while enjoying the scenic beauty. Birmingham's Visit Sea Life is an absolutely stunning place to explore and learn more about the wonderful marine sea life and it won't be a miracle if your child shows further interest in learning more about ocean life.

Dispatches From Israel, Cursing Mothers, and More on the Petraeus Scandal

?I Didn?t Come Back to Jerusalem To Be in a War: What it?s like to be in Israel as the conflict escalates,? by Dahlia Lithwick. Lithwick writes about the intense sadness of life during wartime and wonders when both sides will finally reject war and talk about peace. From Tel Aviv, Jessica Apple discusses the challenges of raising children in a war zone, and the constant terror of air raids and bomb shelters. Janine Zacharia, meanwhile, posits that Israel?s Gaza campaign is doomed, destined only to bring further isolation to the region, and Sarah Tory explains the science behind the country?s high-tech iron dome missile shield.

?Baby Blue Streak: Can I stop swearing before my daughter is born?? by Jessica Grose. Cursing around kids could get them into the habit for a lifetime. What about cursing around fetuses? Grose, many months pregnant, decided to experiment with a curse-free lifestyle for a month. She mostly succeeded?but was the trade-off worth it?

?Bring Back Petraeus: He?s already been humiliated and rehabilitated. Obama should rehire him as CIA director,? by Emily Yoffe. Yes, Gen. David Petraeus had a tawdry affair that exposed his weaknesses to the world. But did he do anything illegal? Yoffe makes a case for Petraeus? rehiring, believing it would strike a blow against America?s sexual puritanism while reconfirming our civil liberties.?

?The Real Lesson of the Petraeus Scandal: We delude ourselves about the way we use technology,? by Christine Rosen. How could a top-ranking general in the U.S. military leave such a massive paper trail of his malfeasance? It helps that no actual paper was involved. Rosen explains how our online communications, freed from the constraints of in-person interaction, may be foolish and strange.

?Who Said It: Marco Rubio or Barack Obama? Willful ignorance of science is a bipartisan value,? by Daniel Engber. In a recent GQ interview, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio refused to say how old he believed Earth to be. Liberals were furious, but his comments actually echoed President Obama?s own. Engber examines the startling equivalence of both parties? denial of science, positing that politicians play by different rules than scientists and pastors.

??Explain Away the Gay: Opponents of same-sex marriage went 0-for-4 in the election. But they have lots of excuses,? by William Saletan. The National Organization for Marriage?the most prominent and active anti-gay-marriage organization?lost all four statewide ballot initiatives. NOM actually ?knew long ago? that it ?faced a difficult political landscape? this year, according to their post-election spin. Saletan explores NOM?s various excuses for their massive loss at the polls, noting that somehow none of them involve the basic fact that more Americans accept marriage equality than ever before.

?Do Coal Plants Really Kill People? Why Romney was right,? by Amanda Schaffer. Both presidential candidates declared themselves friends of coal during this year?s election?a challenge for Romney, who once said that coal production could be toxic. He repeatedly disavowed the comment, but Schaffer argues that he was, in fact, completely accurate: Coal plants release potentially deadly emissions into the air that can damage children?s brains and lungs. That won?t keep future presidential candidates from praising ?clean coal,? though.

?Tax Hike Nation: Republicans always talk tough about not raising taxes. Now they know they have to cut a deal,? by David Weigel. This election cycle, Republicans ran on a strict platform of no new taxes, even for the wealthy. They lost. Weigel discusses Obama?s newfound leverage in allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire, and ponders whether GOP legislators will be wise enough to buck Grover Norquist?s anti-tax pledge.

?Don?t Worry About the Voting Rights Act: If the Supreme Court strikes down part of it, black and Hispanic voters will be just fine,? by Eric Posner and Nicholas Stephanopoulos. As Emily Bazelon recently noted, five members of the Supreme Court appear poised to strike down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act designed to prevent voter suppression of minorities in many Southern states. Eric Posner agrees they might, but argues that this won?t spell doom for minority voters in the South: Another, more obviously Constitutional provision of the Act could be equally effective in preventing disenfranchisement of minorities.

Jailing of protester underlines harsh Russia crackdown: Navalny

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Prominent Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny said on Saturday the jail sentence handed to a protester against President Vladimir Putin highlighted the government's harsh approach to dissent.

Fitness club manager Maxim Luzyanin, the first of 17 people arrested during a protest on the eve of Putin's inauguration in May, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years on Friday for "mass disorder" and violence against the police.

"If earlier there were minor administrative arrests, soft harassment, now - jail time," Navalny, one of the top faces during the past year of protests against Putin's 12-year rule, told the OpenSpace.ru political internet portal.

"The time has passed when they were afraid to jail because they didn't want people to think about '37," the blogger added, referring to Great Purge of the 1937, a year of mass political repressions and murders orchestrated by Joseph Stalin.

Luzyanin, one of the "Bolotnaya 17" detained - named after the square where they protested, was the only member of the group to plead guilty.

Opposition activists say the Bolotnaya case could achieve the notoriety of the Pussy Riot trial, in which three members of the punk band were sentenced to two years in jail after performing an anti-Putin song in Moscow's main cathedral in February.

Luzyanin's sentence does not bode well for the rest of those detained, Navalny said.

"This is either a sign that they will give long sentences to those who will not agree to a deal with investigators, or a sign of the widespread Russian and worldwide practice when the first to confess and cooperate gets immediately a long sentence, to scare the rest to death," he said.

The opposition movement, which had drawn tens of thousands demonstrators in Moscow in the months following the December 4 parliamentary and March 4 presidential election, has dwindled in recent months, failing to unify and mobilize activists.

Putin, who has ruled Russia since 2000 either as president or prime minister, has rushed a series of laws through parliament, such as increasing fines for protesters who step out of line, since his return to the Kremlin.

Russia's investigative committee, which has launched a series of criminal proceedings against opposition leaders in recent months, issued a stark warning last month.

"Those who think they can with impunity organize riots, plan and prepare terrorist attacks and other acts that threaten the lives and health of Russians, you underestimate the Russian special services' professionalism," a statement said.

Movie Review: 'Skyfall' is Bond at His Best - Johns Creek, GA Patch

Daniel Craig is back in his best Bond performance to date in "Skyfall."

On the 50th year of the franchise and the 23rd in the series, this is one of the best Bond films yet, and I have seen all of them. The opening chase scene may be the best ever, and it sets the tone for a really good spy thriller and pure Bond fantasy.

Javier Bardem plays the villain in this one. He's creepy good as the bad guy, making this movie that much better.

We learn more about Bond in this film than any of the others as he tries to come to grips with his mortality and the fact that his type of spying has become obsolete due to technology. But, as you might have guessed, when it's time to kick some butt?who you gonna call ?

A great supporting cast including Judi Dench as M and her superior Ralph Fiennes add their talents in this visually stunning film that takes you from London to exotic Asian locales, with eye candy popping out in every scene. ?

There are great shootouts and hand-to-hand combat sequences in this movie. Craig is great as Bond; Bardem is great as the villain. What more could you ask for? The Flick-O-Meter gives "Skyfall" a five out of five. Sure, it falls victim to cliches like implausible escapes and Bond's ability to dodge just about every bullet fired at him. But if he did get hit, that would be the end of the series, and we don't want that. This is a terrific movie. If you haven't seen a 007 film in years, this is the time to jump back in.

Let me know what you think.?Head on over to my Facebook page. It's called TheBrettside, and click Like.

"Skyfall" is playing at Regal Cinemas Medlock in Johns Creek.
